The Laredo City Council unanimously approved an $11.3 million waterline replacement project Monday evening to address the city’s aging infrastructure and reduce frequent water main breaks.
Presided over by Mayor Pro Tempore Vanessa Perez in Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino’s absence, city officials described the decision as a significant step toward improving water service reliability citywide.
The first phase of the project will replace approximately 30,110 linear feet of aging waterlines across the city’s eight council districts. According to city data, these waterlines have caused 273 breaks over the past five years, resulting in the loss of an estimated 17.2 million gallons of water. Streets selected for this phase were prioritized based on service dates, identifying areas with the highest frequency of breaks.
