Earlier this month, City Council approved an $11.3 million waterline replacement project to address the city’s aging infrastructure and reduce frequent water main breaks.
The project, which will replace about 30,110 feet of water pipes across all eight City Council districts, aims to restore reliability to Laredo’s water system while minimizing disruption.
City officials estimate the effort will save $5.1 million compared to traditional trench excavation methods, thanks to the use of pipe bursting — a trenchless technology known for its cost efficiency and reduced impact on large-scale projects in highly trafficked urban areas.
