Webinar #8 – Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)

Date: Tuesday, April 8, 2026 | 2:00 PM – 3:15 PM EST

Open Cut is the most popular installation method for HDPE pipe, but HDD is the most technically challenging installation method. It is also the second most popular method and is often the first significant HDPE use that a water utility uses. There are many facts and nuances the design engineer should understand when undertaking both common and complex drills. Calculations for HDD pipe installation such as net external loads, average radius of curvature for bore entrance and exit lengths, axial stress along bore path, allowable tensile load and maximum pull force during HDD will be presented. This session will be hosted by Dan Landy, head of engineering at the Alliance. Dan will present on the basics and bring in two other experts to talk site details and case studies. An overview of HDD was offered in 2024 in the trenchless webinar. This is a more in depth look at the popular installation method. Webinar #9 – HDPE in all Markets

Date: Tuesday, May 5th, 2026 | 2:00 PM – 3:15 PM EST

Developing an understanding of how HDPE is used across the nine major pipe markets is valuable for three key reasons. First, HDPE pipe dominates in more than half of the markets where pipe is used in North America and around the world. Second, recognizing which materials HDPE competes with helps engineers make informed pipe selections during design. Finally, examining how and why HDPE is chosen reveals the features and benefits that make it stand out; longevity, ease of installation and overall cost-effectiveness.

This session will highlight real-world case studies that illustrate these advantages in action. CEU/PDH offered, just stay until the end and respond to the question. #fuseitorloseit

Webinar #10 – HDPE Pipe: Lessons from Muni Leaders

Date: Tuesday, September 15th, 2026 | 2:00 PM – 3:15 PM EST

Understanding how and why municipal engineers and utility leaders select HDPE pipe over other materials offers valuable perspective for utilities tired of the “fix-and-break” cycle that’s all too common. In this PEA Webinar first, the Alliance will host live interviews with four municipal leaders from across the country, following brief five-minute overviews of their systems. Together, they’ll explore where and why HDPE is used across the nine major pipe markets—and what lessons can be applied to your own system. By learning how others have overcome challenges, you can better navigate your own. Don’t reinvent the wheel—learn from those who’ve already paved the way.
