Waterbury Compression Fit

Waterbury is a city of 115,000 people on the Naugatuck River, 33 miles southwest of Hartford and 77 miles northeast of New York City. Waterbury is the largest city in the Naugatuck Valley Planning RegionWorking with Core & Main, this project is currently being designed using HDPE because of a roadshow and Alliance engineering assistance during the design process.  A failing water transmission line made of pressure concrete is the primary water line for the located between New Haven and Hartford.  Given the line had already experienced failure, the high pressure system will be lined with HDPE. The 190 psi line will run for 7000’ using DR 11 pipe which has working pressure capability of 200 psi and will take surges to 400 psi.

Compression fit is pictured above, the same tactic used in the Waterbury project to provide a leak proof lining in the already failed pipe.
