Chicago River Swim Scheduled For Sunday Is Cancelled Due To Storms

DOWNTOWN — The Chicago River Swim scheduled for Sunday morning has been cancelled due to storms.
The Chicago River Swim organization made the announcement at 4 a.m. Sunday on social media:
“After monitoring weather and river conditions throughout the night, we have made the difficult decision to cancel today’s Chicago River Swim,” the organization said. “Current conditions do not allow us to safely proceed. Participants should not report to the event start area this morning.”
According to a joint statement by Chicago River Swim and the city of Chicago, storms hitting the Chicago area this weekend had the potential for a combined sewer overflow that could affect water quality, as well as the risk of lightning.
